Americans in Wartime Experience

Our Direction and Leadership

When America goes to war, the American people go to war—from the armed forces to civil servants to families at home. The Americans in Wartime Experience will bring history to life through the stories of American men and women who have answered the nation’s call to serve, from World War I to the present.

The AWE will explore their motivations, their actions and their legacy—because they are the real heroes of American history. Compelling and inspiring, these stories will include:

  • The “ordinary” citizen who becomes a hero in uniform;
  • The parent, spouse or child who sacrifices every day on the home front;
  • The veterans who survived their experience as prisoners of war or are still listed as missing in action;
  • The young Americans who have given their lives on behalf of our nation.

For the millions who served in the military, those who worked and waited at home, and those who have only experienced America’s wartime events in a textbook, our Museum will answer the questions:

  • Who were America’s citizen soldiers?
  • How have Americans answered the call to serve in wartime?
  • What have we gained from their courage, their commitment and their sacrifice?

The Americans in Wartime Experience is led by a talented Executive Staff and a distinguished Board of Trustees.
The Americans in Wartime Experience is a planned 63-acre educational and historical complex like no other. Designed to tell the stories and honor the sacrifices of all who sacrificially gave during times of conflict — whether on the homefront or abroad — this project will help you walk back into history in an new way.
