Laura Dunn- World War II

Laura was born and raised in Cornjock, North Carolina. While she did have a few relatives that served in the Coast Guard through the war, her life was impacted very little. During this period, she was focused on the completion of her college degree and new career in teaching. Laura reflected that items like sugar and gasoline were heavily rationed. Participation in the War Bond drives was very popular. She also recollected that submarine warfare off of the coast of North Carolina was a constant threat and that windows had to be darkened after nightfall so that they could not use the light from the houses to navigate.

After the war. Laura married a Navy veteran and continued a life-long career in teaching.Bio prepared by Shannon P. Reck, MMH
